# Collaborators on Projects

Once a collaborator is in your directory, you can attach them to any project and note what they are handling on it. The link works both ways: the project shows who is involved, and the collaborator shows every project they are on.

## Adding a collaborator to a project

1. Open the project and stay on the **General** tab
2. Find the **Collaborators** panel, just under the assigned team member
3. Click **Add**
4. Search for the collaborator and pick them from the list
5. Optionally type a **Role**, for example "Structural engineer" or "Notary for the deed"
6. Click **Link**

The collaborator appears in the panel, with the role underneath their name. A collaborator you have set to inactive is marked as such, so you can see at a glance who is no longer on your active list.

## Changing a role

Click the pencil icon next to a collaborator, edit the role, and click the tick to save. Click the cross to leave it as it was.

## Removing a collaborator from a project

Click the bin icon next to them and confirm.

<Note>
  Removing only breaks the link between that project and that collaborator. The project stays exactly as it is, and the collaborator stays in your directory with all their details.
</Note>

## Seeing it from the other side

Open any collaborator from the **Collaborators** page and look at **Linked Projects**. You get the project reference, the project name, and the role you recorded. Click a row to open the project.

<Tip>
  If you arrive at a collaborator by clicking their name on a project, the **Back to Project** button takes you straight back to where you started.
