# Logging In & MFA Setup

> How to sign in to Arkata and set up your authenticator app.

# Logging In

Arkata uses email-based sign-in with mandatory two-factor authentication (MFA) to keep your firm's data secure.

## First-time login

  <Step title="Check your email">
    You'll receive an email with a temporary password from your administrator. Click the link or go to your firm's Arkata URL directly.

  <Step title="Enter your credentials">
    Use your email address and the temporary password to sign in for the first time.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set a new password">
    You'll be prompted to choose a permanent password. Pick something strong — at least 8 characters with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set up MFA">
    Arkata requires a TOTP authenticator app. You'll see a QR code — scan it with your authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy, or similar) and enter the 6-digit code to confirm.

<Tip>
  Save your authenticator app's backup codes somewhere safe. If you lose access to your phone, you'll need your administrator to reset your MFA.

## Regular login

1. Go to your firm's Arkata URL
2. Enter your email and password
3. Enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app
4. You're in

## Locked out?

If you can't sign in:

* **Wrong password**: Try again carefully. After too many failed attempts your account may be temporarily locked.
* **Lost authenticator**: Contact your firm's administrator — they can reset your MFA.
* **Account disabled**: If your account has been deactivated, only an administrator can re-enable it.
