# Project Types

Arkata supports 9 project types. The type you choose determines what lifecycle phases are available for tracking progress.

## Available types

| Code      | Full Name                      | Use Case                                                             |
| --------- | ------------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **PA** | Planning Application | Full planning permission applications — the most common type |
| **RG** | Regularisation | Regularising existing unauthorised development |
| **DNO** | Development Notification Order | Minor works that require notification rather than full permission |
| **DS** | Dangerous Structure | Dangerous structure assessments and interventions |
| **CMP** | Compliance | Compliance submissions for existing permits |
| **GS** | General Service | General professional services (no permit lifecycle) |
| **PC**    | Pre-Consultation               | Pre-application consultations with the PA                            |
| **CD** | Certificate of Development | Certificate applications |
| **Other** | Other | Anything that doesn't fit the categories above — no lifecycle phases |

## Choosing the right type

* If you're submitting a full planning application, use **PA**
* If the work is regularising something already built, use **RG**
* For minor works notifications, use **DNO**
* For professional services not tied to a permit, use **GS** or **Other**

<Info>
  The project type cannot be changed after creation. If you picked the wrong type, create a new project with the correct type.
</Info>

## Lifecycle differences

Each type has a different set of phases. PA projects have the most (18 phases across 4 stages). Simpler types like CMP have just 3 phases. **Other** has no lifecycle at all.

See [Lifecycle Phases](/projects/lifecycle-phases) for the full breakdown.
